Last year I was asked about, “Adults Dressing Up For Harvest Parties” – was it OK? Maybe you’re escorting your children to a party, or you work in the children’s department of a store, and you want to be a lion, princess, Bible character or anything that isn’t ghoulish, scary or demonic; OK. No harm done. Have a good evening.
Now, here’s another situation – You get dressed up, go to a Halloween party; there’s drinking, smoking, and someone starts a fight during the party. Shots ring out and someone is killed (maybe a little overdramatic). But you’re in the wrong place, it’s the wrong time & you’ve opened yourself up to all sorts of temptations and evil. Why set yourself up? And if you desire to go to a ‘theme park’ and spend your money to get “the fright of a lifetime” – it may just give you a lot of sleepless nights ahead. Find something else to do for the evening and save your money.
Another situation – you’re invited to a “Theme Party”, a “Tribute to the 60’s Dress up”, or a “Medieval Costume Party”. Instead of renting an outfit, try to make one (there is talent in using things that are inexpensive or around the house). Go ahead if you want to make an appearance. Also, “Let your conscious be your guide” and remember who you represent.
The end result should be: Take the children out and let them have a little fun for the night in a wholesome atmosphere. Most churches offer alternatives such as “Harvest Parties, Halleluiah Night, Fall Festivals, Family Fun Night, Pumpkin Night etc.; where the children don’t loose out on candies, food, dress-up, and fun and games. As they get older, then explain to your children the true meaning of Halloween. When we were stationed in Germany, my son went to a Halloween party while my husband and I were at a friend’s home having a good time in safety. We had a prayer right before midnight and then continued to play some board games. Later our son came in from his good time, and he was looking a little pale. He and his friends had seen “an evil spirit”. He could not describe it but he knew just what it was. No, it wasn’t someone trying to play a joke on him and his buddies. Evil spirits are more prevalent over seas than I’ve seen here in the states, but they’re being invited into the USA, more and more as time goes on. When you see an advertisement to come to a “Halloween Horror Night …More flesh-ripping gore than ever before” – should you really want to be there?
