Please read this amazing note from our friend, Amie White and then listen to her story - you will be inspired and filled with gratitude for all your blessings!
In Amie's own words....
This year I am having a particularly difficult time writing my PMC fundraising letter. It is with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes that I flash back over this past year. When Greg and I completed the PMC last summer, neither of us expected to hear the devastating news. In October 2008, my remission was officially over; my cancer had returned. Our family was - once again – in for a very long and emotional fight against cancer.
The end of this course of treatment is finally on the horizon, but our battle against this aggressive cancer will continue for the rest of my life. Recent scans revealed that I will never again be in remission; rather, I will be a person “living with cancer.” Suddenly, I feel as though I am biking for my life. I am biking for money for research, for breakthroughs, for options and most importantly for my family.
This summer, during the weekend of August 1 and 2, “Team Peddle 2 the Mettle,” together with a group of 4,000+ cyclists, will participate in the nation’s original fundraising bike-a-thon. The Pan-Mass Challenge, a two day, 200 mile bike ride across Massachusetts, raises funds for cancer research and treatment. Since 1980, the Pan Mass Challenge has raised more than $200 million for life-saving cancer research and treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. In fact, the PMC is the largest single contributor to the Jimmy Fund, bringing in nearly 50 percent of its annual revenue.
While last year, Greg and I bypassed our fundraising targets by raising close to $10,000 from almost 140 sponsors, across three continents (THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR SPONSORS), this year, the PMC has increased its fundraising goals. We recognize that this is a very tough economy, but any and all emotional and monetary support gets us that much closer to finding a cure!
I am asking for pledges based on this 200 mile bike-a-thon. I am proud to accept anything you can offer. Also, many companies match charitable donations made by their employees…and any extra funding helps. I encourage you to visit the Pan-Mass Challenge website at www.pmc.org to learn more about this exciting institution. You can make a donation directly on this site and it will benefit my fundraising - http://www.pmc.org/mypmc/profiles.asp?eGiftID=AW0069.
If you prefer to mail a donation, please make your check payable to the Pan-Mass Challenge, but mail it directly to me at 137 Bradford Street, Needham, MA 02492.
Thank you for your support and a happy 2009!
