“Reading the Bible”
Want to start reading the Bible, but you get turned off or sleepy as soon as you start? Go directly to Proverbs in the Old Testament. Proverbs has 31 chapters and that means you can read a chapter a day and be finished in one month. There’s a lot of wisdom in the book of Proverbs.
Next you can read the small chapters in the New Testament: I, II & III John, Jude etc. Now, read the Epistles (Eph., Gal., Col., Rom. - save Revelations & Acts until later – if you can). Check off or highlight the chapters that you’ve read in the “Table of Contents”. Wow! Now hit some of the stories in the Old Testament and discover some of the “butt kick’n” guys and gals in the scriptures (hope that wasn’t an offensive term). They may or may not have used their hands to fight in every battle, but they used their minds and the inspirations from God to get the job done (oh and those angles [who are around today to help us] came just in the nick of time to rescue and deliver). Those people were heroes, warriors, and champions. Did you know that there were even some villains, cowards and tyrants in the scriptures?
When you’ve accomplished reading the chapters of the Bible that I suggested, then let me know how you got through your reading. Please let me know each book that you complete. By the way, if the King James Version is a little heavy for you to understand (with the ‘thee’s and thou’s), get an easier reading Bible. Go to a Christian Book Store and ask someone to show you your options. Are you “Low on cash right now”, no sweat - go to the library. The Bible hasn’t been abolished there (at least not yet).
Since this is the time that we commemorate the birth of our Lord and Savior, go ahead, read the Christmas story in the book of Matthew and remember that “Jesus is the Reason for this Holiday Season; Merry Christmas!!!!!
Let’s hear from you. What’s on your brain?
Christ’s love to all,
