LED … it’s all you hear about when people talk about lighting and energy efficiency. You know the buzz is these cool lights are clean, green and can save energy and money, but what are real life applications for LED lighting today? We assembled a list of facts to help shed light on the popular subject. Enjoy our ten LED lighting tips and visit www.lucialighting.com to discover everything you need to know about lighting and more...

· LED, light emitting diodes, can last anywhere from 20,000 to 100,000 hours. The lifespan of an LED varies based on color and quality.

· LED lights are cool and white, not warm and yellow like the lighting most of us are accustomed to.

· They are super energy efficient – each LED can run from ½ watt to 3 watts, using very little energy, and often replacing 10-20 watt bulbs.

· Proper product selection and heat management are key elements to maximizing the benefits of LED.

· The most common ways LED is being used in homes today is in under cabinet lighting, cove lighting, and landscape lighting.

· People use LED in cove lighting applications because it is low profile and often flexible, so it can fit in very small spaces.

· LED uses very low wattage, and there are no lightbulbs to be changed – a big plus in hard-to-reach cove areas.

· Under cabinet lighting has similar challenges to cove lighting, in that you’re fitting lights into very shallow spaces.

· Also, LEDs emit very little heat, unlike other light sources – so your chocolate chips do not turn to fudge inside your cabinet, and your kids don’t burn their hands if they touch the lights.

· LED is advantageous in landscape lighting because a little light goes a long way at night. Landscape fixtures are usually small, so they can be concealed, and they are often placed in hard-to-reach spots, so the longevity of the LED is an enormous benefit.
