Inspired By Travel

Travel is one of those things you just can't life without, or at least I can't. No matter how many amazing experiences I have, I just can't seem to quench my wanderlust. But a lot of people have fears of travel - fear of being uncomfortable, fear of being away from their creature comforts, or simply a fear of spending the money.  But here are a few of life's little inspirations they are missing out by not taking advantage.

Appreciate What You've Got
You might think that the way things are at home are the way they are everywhere in the world.  Not so.  Even if you visit a country that speaks your language or even a country that isn't very far away, you will find food and customs different than that you are used to.  And you know something?  They have annoyances and problems just like your country does.  Perhaps when you get home you'll appreciate the things that you have just a little more.

Learn Something New
You don't have to be an adrenaline junkie to learn something new on holiday - although a few hours on a zip line or waterski is definitely good for refreshing the mind.  Maybe you can take a class learning to make one of the local crafts?  How about a few hours in a cafe meeting and mingling with the residents?  Who knows what you mind find out - about them or about yourself.

Grow Closer to Someone Special
This one is a fine line, because spending two weeks non-stop with someone is bound to drive anybody crazy.  But if you aren't traveling solo, take someone with you that you'd like to know better.  Leaving all the clutter of home life behind, you might have an opportunity to have that thoughtful conversation with your partner that you've been avoiding, or maybe an unreal travel experience is what you need to bring that family of yours closer.  Just be sure to schedule in breaks and "me time" for everyone on tour, or else you'll just end up at each other's throats.  Not what I had in mind with "growing closer."

Get Some Distance and Perspective
You have a routine, and for good reason, as we are creatures of habit.  But to grow as a person, you need to break those mental pathways and do something different.  But at home that can be hard with the pressures of a partner, family, work, or otherwise. While you're on the road, things are different.  Your schedule changes, your environment is different, and it offers you a chance to stop and reflect.  Take stock of this massive journey you are on (the journey of life, I mean).  Are you happy with the way things are?  Does something need to shift?  Find the answer.
