Creating Joy
by Peg Donahue and Katina Lemay

Energetically there is an area of your space that is known as Children and Joy.  This is the center right of your space when you overlay a grid of nine blocks (like a tic-tac-toe board) over your home or office.

This area is about bringing joy to our lives through our creations. Children and offspring are a creation, as is self expression through writing, speaking, art, film, music, athletics and various activities. Businesses and subsidiaries of a business are also creations. Every person is creative and cultivating creativity can bring much joy. Speaking up for oneself is about self expression. People that stifle this energy may develop problems with their mouth, teeth, throat, skin, large intestine or lungs.

An image associated with Children and Joy is the lake. Lake energy is fun, magical and relaxing. If you would like to have children, add some fun and whimsical items. If you’d like to create better relationships with your children, include something that reminds you about each person’s unique style and voice. If you are preparing for retirement, this is a wonderful sector or your home or office to refresh or revitalize as this area is also about the future.

From a feng shui perspective, the Children and Joy gua is energized by the Metal element. Metal energy is clear, focused and organized. When it is out of balance (too much or too little) it can show up as anxiety and anguish, a lack of focus or purpose, sloppy work or behavior, being overly sharp, critical or judgmental and even being obsessive, sarcastic or aloof. Creating balance in this area can really help bring focus to your life. Earth energy strengthens the area if Metal is weak and Water energy dulls the sharp edges of overly strong Metal.

As in all areas of your home, remove all clutter and fix everything that requires repair or maintenance. Work with this gua in particular if you would like to:

·        have children or are having issues with pregnancy

·        improve your relationships with your teenagers or children

·        help your children boost their independence

·        experience more joy and fun in your life

·        have a happy and prosperous retirement

·        develop your self-expression or find your voice

·        eliminate lung, breathing, intestinal throat or skin trouble

·        release grief, sadness, addictions, rigid or chaotic behavior

·        be less critical or judgmental of others

The feng shui color for the Children & Joy gua is white. You can also use gray, silver, yellow and light colors or any pastel shade. If your room is another color, simply enhance it with white, gray or light shades. You can also energize this area by including circular shapes or round objects (rugs, picture frames, art work, for example), items made from any metal (such as gold, silver, brass, aluminum, etc.). Arched doorways and windows add a wonderful feel to this area also.

Pictures of lakes, sunsets, autumn scenes; fun, whimsical items and toys; earthy items such as pottery and square shares and anything that represents being light-hearted and relaxed highly encouraged in this area.

Different life stages call for different approaches. Energize the Children and Joy gua based where you are in your life. The important thing is that your space represents you. Would you like to benefit from more relaxation, happiness, creativity and joy? If so, focus on the Children and Joy gua. Discover the patterns and adjust anything that is out of balance. More relaxation and fun will soon be a part of your experience.
