WHEN SEASONS CHANGE – BEAUTY REGIMES CHANGE

Fall is here the crisp air, the warmer clothes, windier days.  You start to rearrange your closets put away summer items and prepare for the cooler weather. As the summer humid air leaves and the cool drier air comes in it affects our skin.  This is the time to take a look at your beauty regime and make adjustments.

Take a look at your make-up table; throw away anything that is more than six months old.  The colors of the season change and your make-up should be the same.  Subtle changes in your foundation to a lighter shade, cheeks color a tad darker, eyes a little more natural with earthy tones of the shades you prefer.

Most importantly your skin regime needs to be adjusted season to season.  The air changes in the environment which can cause havoc on your skin.  Often my clients come in at the end of August with breakouts and skin blues.  This is the way of your skin saying I need a change, just as the season starts to change.

Start with your basic routine, cleanser, toner and moisturizer.  Most cleansers can be all around the year, the toner if it has alcohol in it put it away until next summer (although I will be advising you that only an exceptional few should use an alcohol in their toner).  The moisturizer is the product that should be adjusted season to season.  Luckily most moisturizer last only a few months so, a change should not affect your budget too much.  There is a lack of moisture in the air during the fall and winter seasons so you need to adjust your moisturizer.  A day time moisturizer is doing two things keeping the moisture in your skin and protecting you from the environment.  Not only do you need a sun protector in the fall and winter but you need to fight the factors of the season, like wind, cold.  Your moisturizer needs to protect all day.  Choose a cream or gel based moisturizer with water as the close to last ingredient.  A thicker night moisturizer is a must!  At night while you sleep your skin is repairing itself, if your skin is trying to defend itself from dehydration it will become fatigued and not be at its optimum to repair itself.   A good night cream will not evaporate into the air and will stay on your skin and act as an occlusive, retaining hydration in the skin.  The second act of your moisturizer as an occlusive keeps the action products on the skin and assists in your skin taking in needed elements.

Lastly, let’s review your action products.  Your action product is the product that is combating your skin conditions, whether it is Aging, Acne, Pigmentation, Rosacae, Keratosis.  Usually these products are used at night under your moisturizer they are the more aggressive products that are applied to correct or prevent a skin condition. This is the time to make a change.  After time your skin becomes complacent to the action product.  Making a change to a different product that concentrates on the condition will revivify your skin.

At the end of each season take a look at your beauty regime, make adjustments accordingly and your skin will feel and look recharged and ready for the season.
