Proverbs 31:23 Her husband is known in the [city's] gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.
The Proverbs 31 Woman is such a good woman that everything and everyone around her is made better by her presence. Because she is so good to her husband (See verses 11 and 12 - Lessons 3 and 4), he is a better man. Her goodness to him inspires and frees him to excel to his very best. I recently saw an interview with Dr. Phil (McGraw) and his wife, Robin, who did this very thing for him. She shared how in the early years of their marriage, Dr. Phil would always tell her, "I'll make a worthwhile living, if you make the living worthwhile." In other words, if you provide a peaceful atmosphere in the home, I'll do everything within my power to make you happy.
A man doesn't mind working hard for his family if he can come home to a peaceful atmosphere. The Proverbs 31 Woman is just the woman for the job. She exudes peace. She not only "makes the living worthwhile" for her husband, but also for her children and all who are in relationship with her. Her godly attitude, positive outlook, and total dependence on the Lord make her an indispensable part of the lives of those around her. Her husband has a prize in her. He rises into a well-known and respected city leader with this woman of God (and of course, God himself), as the wind beneath his wings.
